Fashion trends in areas of art are so unstable. It is enough to look back to see how quickly the tastes of mankind are changing. What was popular yesterday is unlikely to attract anyone today. What is popular today, tomorrow is unlikely to remember. This applies to cinema and music, and, of course, anime industry. If, more recently, the palm of the championship in the number of Titles produced was occupied by the genre of comedies, now these laurels have passed to a daring competitor, without which a new anime seeson can no longer be imagined. I say, of course, about the genre ISEKAI, That is, anime about the entry of characters into parallel worlds (briefly – about fellowers), which became the most relevant at the time of release SAO. However, a wave of their popularity does not think to subside – over the past few seasons in the top of popularity, you can almost find anime about adventure in parallel worlds with a 100% probability. Winter anime season of 2019 was no exception. This will be a review on the most popular, but therefore no less controversial anime of winter – Tate no yuusha no nariagari (“The Rising of the Shield Hero”, “Climbing the Hero of the Shield”).
Brief information
Tate No Yuusha No Nariagari – fantasy anime released by the studio Kinema Citrus In the winter of 2019. The basis is based manga (which is adaptation Ranobe) Author Yusagi ANECO (Yusagi Aneko) And Seira minami (Seira Minami). The series consists of twenty -five episodes.
The ascent of the hero of the shield tells you the story of an ordinary otaku Naofumi Iwatani (Naofumi Iwatani), which, by the will of fate, when reading an unusual book, together with three other young guys throws into a parallel world – into a country called Melromarc (Melromarc). Yes, not like it, but in the role of one of the four legendary heroes, the purpose of which is the struggle with the waves of monsters, at certain moments of attackers of the kingdom. Of course, the heroes will risk their life for a reason – in return they receive royal approval, human love and mountains of awards. But Naofumi was not very lucky, because he was considered considered the weakest class – the knight of the shield – who can hardly fight on his own. However, this does not bother the newly-made hero much, because they can’t abandon him because of such a banal reason without any support to their fate, slander in all mortal sins … or they may?
Characters
When I found out that the main character in Tate No Yuusha No Nariagari is another otaku, my hysterical laughter almost began. Because, the hell of a more banal choice of type for a protagonist was impossible to make – in every second Ice, he is far from the most successful person in the real world of varying degrees of neglect (otaku, Hikikomory or simply a socially closed person), who suddenly becomes all his favorite superhero in the new universe. As a rule, such metamorphoses look somewhat stupid, and are used as a kind of source of hope for the audience, which themselves are often recluses, all free time spending the houses in four walls. Like, since the protagonist, due to the combination of circumstances, got on Wednesday, where his skills were useful, then you will be lucky someday. It’s a pity, but in reality everything works somewhat more complicated.
However, in fact Naofumi Iwatani (Naofumi Iwatani) not very suitable for the description of a person who is not capable of social interactions. Yes, in the first series he is strictly stupid and does things that an adequate person in his right mind would not have become, but subsequently, he accepts the blows of fate and adequately behaves. Moreover, from a certain moment it becomes clear that Naofumi is a fairly smart and prudent guy, whose actions are interesting to observe and who is easy enough to empathize. Sometimes I even noticed that his thoughts completely coincide with mine – and this, believe me, happens extremely rarely. In the universe TateNoYuushaNoNariagari Naofumi fits successfully, and with his tasks as a protagonist, he copes well. So the description of the “Hero-Take” to it was applied by the scriptwriters more for a checkmark and attracting the attention of the target audience than to describe character and social skills.
On the other hand, I liked the secondary characters much less. If you evaluate from afar, they can easily be called a standard set of satellites of fantasy titles. Firstly, this is a raccoon Raffetalia (Raphtalia), which is predictably used as a source of unrequited, bright love in relation to its Savior. She could be a much more non -standard and worked out character if her growing up lasted a couple of episodes, but at least a couple of arches. And so Raftalia turns into a standard companion of the protagonist, who is easy to confuse with hundreds of others. Baby Filo (Filo) It is used in the role of a peculiar mask of the series, and is also not much different from other standard characters – but it is at least cute and funny. Other guys who fall into the parallel world with Naofumi, turn out to be just samples of stupidity and chronic idiocy – but we will talk about this a little later. Blacksmiths, merchants, artisans, ordinary residents – no eye clings to any of them. A very standard fantasy set in which it is very difficult to highlight someone. Unless the slave trader turned out to be suitable, but there is very little it here.
If you distinguish someone, it is absolutely one-sided, predictable, banal antagonists who do evil without any motivation-simply because they are vicious (sometimes even contradicting their real goals). I am already getting down with the account, once again I write something similar, but I still repeat: If the antagonist has no motivation for making evil, this is a bad antagonist. First, because it deprives the viewer of freedom of choice. If the antagonist has no reason to commit certain acts, it becomes almost impossible for him to empathize, which means that the viewer does not have any other option, except to take the side of the “good” hero. Secondly, such antagonists turn out to be predictable, because you know in advance that first of all he conceived some kind of meanness that kills any intrigue. Thirdly, I personally be bored to watch such characters. Yes, they know how to build terrible faces and cause anger in the viewer, but do not forget that the challenge of negative emotions is far from the only task of antagonists. Unfortunately, c Tate no yuusha no nariagari They could not cause a kaleidoscope of conflicting emotions – only irritation from the fact that others are so stupid that they are not able to solve their obvious plans.
Plot
When I started to watch Tate no https://playuzu-casino.co.uk/ yuusha no nariagari, I didn’t even know what to expect. Different Isecai bet on a completely different emotional background and atmosphere, so this anime could be any. The first four episodes Tate no yuusha no nariagari they set the viewer to the gloomy atmosphere, preparing you to watch the difficult adventures of all the rejected hero, who is forced to do evil in order to survive, however, in the fifth series, the gloomy atmosphere instantly disappears, replacing the standard atmosphere of friendly fantasy adventures with a solution to small problems that are found along the way. Was I disappointed with such a metamorphosis? Of course, yes, because the idea of gloomy adventures of the rejected hero seems to me much more promising and original than the next adventures of an ordinary guy with a company of faithful girls, which I have already seen in dozens of Titles. As a result, the gloomy story turned into a children’s fairy tale.
However, this is far from the main problem Tate no yuusha no nariagari. Let’s talk a little about one, quite common reception for second -rate scenarios, which is used to cheaply strengthen the caused emotions – this is deliberate dug of characters. Most often it is found in comedies to recreate the atmosphere of absurdity – for example, scriptwriters often resort to it SouthPark: make normal adult characters absolutely inadequate, in order to cause the viewer bewilderment from their actions and add contrast with adequate actions of children. In addition, the titles often sin with this technique to enhance the effect of psychological scenes: you can observe a good example in the first and fourth series Tate no yuusha no nariagari, where Naofumi is accused of all mortal sins, thereby causing indignation and righteous anger in the soul of the viewer. The only problem is that if in the case of a comedy, such techniques of deliberate dug of the characters are effective and enhance the effect of satire, then in the case of a serious narrative, this is a technique only covers the lack of logic in the actions of certain characters. Are all the characters – both the inhabitants of the parallel universe, and the heroes called up there are so stupid and blind as not to notice the obvious setup? Why did Ren and his smart friend even try to question the accusation of their comrade (especially if you take into account that it can lead to his death and their death)? As they say, I don’t believe! As a result, the viewer turns out to be defenseless before the stream of stupidity, pouring from the screen – and I don’t like to remain defenseless. Retribution in Tate no yuusha no nariagari We have to wait a long time.
In fact, logical gaps in Tate no yuusha no nariagari It turns out well a lot. Someone will explain to me why almost all the characters of Isikaev never try to get as much information as possible about the world in which they got? Why damn mucus from tensEI Shitara Slime Datta Ken more competent belongs to his new position than the four called legendary heroes-schoolboy, who played a huge number of computer games, and who will bring all the information on a saucer, you only need to ask them to ask? However, seeing their other actions, it becomes obvious that the guys were deprived of the mind … I have long lost the score for smaller omissions. You are aiming at a super -lodge spell, beating along a strictly limited area? And let’s, instead of moving a little bit, stand still and try to block it with a few shields and heroic effort! You have two people sentenced for terrible misconduct to the death penalty? And let’s forgive them and leave them in the wild, so that they continue to create evil! During one of the waves, a mysterious enemy is breaking through you alone? But let’s forget about him and never mention the next ten episodes! After all, somehow everything will be resolved by itself, yes? Yes? This is not just stupidity or omission – this is a catastrophic idiocy that I, with all my desire, cannot find an excuse. And I just walked along the top of the iceberg … Well, you can’t build important plot details on their basis, you can’t do it.
However, in addition to disadvantages, in Tate no yuusha no nariagari You can find many advantages. I would call the first of them competently verified balance between action and adventure, due to which the narrative is uniform in saturation and speed. There are practically no passing, frankly boring series in the anime that would not have moved the plot forward – that is why Tate no yuusha no nariagari Even with all the disadvantages, it looks easy and unstable. The second dignity I would call Very visible demonstration of media manipulation and religion – Here for this I applaud Tate no yuusha no nariagari Standing. Perhaps, in no Title, I have not seen such a colorful explanation that in evil hands the media and religion can turn into a dangerous weapon that has the power of a hydrogen bomb. Manipulations of public opinion, video installation, distortion of facts, consumption by authority, use of faith – all this is relevant in the modern world, and is very competently ridiculed in Tate no yuusha no nariagari. That’s what I did not expect from standard fantasy. And finally, thirdly, I liked it A variety of techniques and abilities, which the protagonist is endowed – everything looks very natural and really looks like Mmorpg. Yes, he uses at best only heel or two shields, but the fact of the presence of many abilities pleased me.
Panache
Studio Kinema Citrus It is unlikely that the advanced ones can be attributed (they still do not have so many loud titles), but it is stupid to deny that the visual part in their works usually finds it at a height: take the same Black Bullet, in which the drawing is perhaps the only advantage, or not so long ago a luxurious Made in Abyss. That is why from Tate no yuusha no nariagari I expected quality graphics, and that is why I remained slightly disappointed. On the one hand, I liked the design of weapons, clothes, the study of the emotions of the heroes, as well as the chosen color scheme. On the other hand, background images are sometimes terribly drawn, and the design of the characters is not much different from the design of any other fantasy – after a month I hardly recall the appearance of the protagonist or his companions. In addition, the picture in some scenes does not have enough dynamics. When compared with a clear, bright and verified to the smallest detail graphics in Black Bullet or simple, but very stylish graphics Made in Abyss, Drawing in Tate no yuusha no nariagari It turned out not very. Artists Kinema Citrus know how to create more impressive images. Not bad, but it could have been better.
Music
Writing background music for Tate no yuusha no nariagari was engaged in very talented and demanded Kevin Penkin (Kevin Penkin), who had previously managed to be a luxurious soundtrack in Made in Abyss. His new work turned out to be no less diverse and expressive – from some melodies, even during the first listening, goosebumps go. Kevin masterfully combines a variety of musical styles, as a result of which magnificent combined compositions are born, powerful both symphonic and electronic sound.
Openings in "Climbing the hero of the shield " It turned out no less powerful – for a long time I did not catch my openings so that he was listening to them without rewinding throughout the series. Especially pleases the recitative in the first ophening Rise performed Madkid – It sounds very fresh and dynamic. The second opening Faith performed Madkid it turned out no less dynamic and also fits perfectly into the atmosphere of Title. Madkid completely coped with their tasks. The endings turned out to be more lyrical and sound standard:
1). Kimi No Namae performed Chiai Fujikawa (Episodes 2-3, 5–12).
2). Falling Through Starlight performed Asami Seto (Episode 4).
3). Atashi ga tonari ni iru uchi ni performed Chiai Fujikawa (Episodes 13-25)
Estimates
Characters – 10.0. A strong protagonist, a couple of good secondary heroes. Overdose loli and flat antagonists.
The plot is 6.0. Good balance between action and adventure. Standard fantasy narration with a minimum of surprises and the maximum of idiocy performed by heroes. Gloom quickly decline.
Drawing – 9.5. Not bad, but still does not reach the level of top studios.
Music – 10.5. Excellent openings, standard endings. Luxurious background musical accompaniment.
Conclusion
So is it worth watching Tate no yuusha no nariagari? If you like standard fantasy and priests genre, then I would give this anime a chance. If not, then I would advise you to make a choice in favor of other titles. Everything very depends on how serious you are to the shortcomings described in the review – if calm, then you will most likely like the anime, because even I looked at it with pleasure. In recent years, in my eyes, the anime of the genre of Idoekai in the Japanese animation industry has practically equal to the “popcorn” cinema like Hollywood comedies or militants, which are also stamped in unimaginable quantities, and which You look once, get a small dose of positive emotions, and then successfully forget, since they are quickly set off with other similar works. The most popular and successful Iceecai try to stand out sharply from competitors: so, Re: Zero relies on psychology and intense atmosphere, Goblin Slayer (Let it not quite Isekai tries to hit the viewer with cruelty, Log Horizon introduces elements of economics and strategy, and No Game No Life It may be interested in an unusual topic; But that is the problem that in Tate no yuusha no nariagari I didn’t notice anything like this. This is real Standard fantasy anime in all respects, which turns out to be of high quality to bring pleasure when viewing, but not original enough to stand out against the background of competitors and become outstanding. Which, however, did not affect its popularity – unnecessary proof that the Genre of the Pogadanians are alive than all living things, and the wave of its popularity will soon subside. But I do not mind – if only the titles appeared interesting.
